Book 1 Becoming

Jake Talon and his brother Aaron grew up in the zombie apocalypse. All they have ever known is a world constantly threatened with extinction from the undead hordes which roamed the land. Taught by their father to survive and live, the two men drift, unsure of their future. As Jake and Aaron try to figure out what they were meant to do with this world of theirs, someone has plans to bring the zombies back.

Generation Dead marks the beginning of an exciting new stand alone series from Joseph Talluto and takes place some 20 years after the conclusion of The White Flag of the Dead series.

Generation Dead A White Flag of the Dead Novel eBook Joseph Talluto

This is set in the period following the zombie apocalypse, when a basic sort of civilization has been re-established but is struggling. Technology has definitely not made a full comeback and while cars are in use there are no cell phones or Internet. Zombies are still a real threat and in certain zones they reign largely uncontested over cities or towns. There are crude measures in place to contain the zombie menace but outbreaks still happen occasionally and people are constantly vigilant. Law and order have been established on the model of the old American West, with a town sherif and deputies. This is an interesting world. The current moment is definitively set within the context of the history of the outbreak, the wars waged against the zombies, and the effort to re-establish society.

The characters are pretty interesting - professional collectors who make runs into zombie controlled zones to retrieve things that customers have hired them to find (mementos, guns, technology etc.) This means danger and plenty of zombie fighting. The main characters have been well trained for the job by their parents who were prominent zombie fighters in the war against the undead that helped get humanity back on its feet. They are proficient, tough, and take no crap from the living or the dead.

As they return to the human populated towns between collecting runs they begin to encounter increasing conflict with an unsavory element of society.... Civilization appears to be in danger of starting a slow slide back toward lawlessness. In a world that is as full of saloon fights and weapon-toting tough guys as any Colorado mining town during a gold rush in the 1800's, the protagonists end up in a lot of face offs with the local thugs.

The plot moves along at a decent pace and there is some edgy tension between a couple of the characters right from the start, which makes things interesting. There were some events that seemed to be setting up the delivery of an interesting twist or a dramatic reveal of new information but were then glossed over, which was a bit puzzling. However, overall it was a good story. A word of caution for the more particular reader here: if bad grammar tends to take you out of the moment, then this may be a little bit of a bumpy ride for you.

Bottom line: good zombie fiction covering a post-zombie-plague period that is interesting and not that common in zombie novels. Good action and a plot that looks to be going somewhere mean I will be collecting the sequel.

Generation Dead A White Flag of the Dead Novel eBook Joseph Talluto Reviews

A fantastic series of zombie books with likeable and believeable characters that continue to evolve. I certainly look forward to many more from Mr. Talluto. They are quite riveting and have it all. They just don't get written fast enough for me. Many thanks Mr. Talluto.
There's not really much more to write about the Mothers death. They were both helping the sick during the cholera outbreak and they both got sick and died. They died within three days of each other
Love this continuation of Joseph Taluto's White Flag of The Dead series, but from the kids ppint of view!
While this wasn't one of my all time favorite reads it was good! It is more a coming of age tale where 2 brothers and a female friend have grown up in the post apocalyptic "new" world. It did however end on a very high note making me very anxious to start reading book 2! I believe this book was the base of a great new series & hope that I am right!!
I enjoyed reading about the children of the first "White Flag Of the Dead" series. I am anxious for the 2nd book in the Generation Dead series to be available! While you do not need to read the orgianl series it would give you a better idea of the back story on how Arraon, Julia, & Jake came to be. The only downfall of this book is that it does not have as much 'zombie action" as I'd like but it is still a excellent follow up to the orginal series.
I've been a big fan of Talluto for a while now, but this book was a tad disappointing. I guess its just getting to the point where it doesn't feel like a zombie series anymore. I mean yeah there are zombies in the book, but its not about surviving said zombies. The post apocalypse feel is gone, in exchange for a world that has seemingly recovered. This is not to say the book is all bad. There is some promise and some of the concepts laid out are new in the zombie genre. I am still interested to see where it will all go. All in all not a good place to start if you're new to Talluto, but fans should still pick it up.
OK, I wanted to go for five stars but....
In the beginning of this book Aaron tells about how he is
like his mother and Jake is like his real mother. Later
Jake finds out and Aaron finds out that Sarah was not
both mother to both? What did I miss?

And once again a Talon man is too lazy to make the first move
in a relationship and must wait for the female (all understanding,
all thinking of him, tough as nails but too dumb to think for herself
female who must wait for his direction on the job)
Good thing ugly girls don't set their sites on Aaron or he'd just
settle for one of those!

And now they must all find their destiny....
Jake is a jerk and they don't get along?
Mommy's die and daddy's run away?

Great writing that should be growing better is taking the
easy fall back position here.
